Ananta launches worldwide on January 15, 2027. Its currently announced platforms are PlayStation 5, Steam, a separate official Windows PC client and mobile. The official site shows Apple and Android badges, while the publisher’s release announcement groups them as mobile. No official Xbox or Nintendo Switch edition was identified in the current launch set checked on August 28, 2026.

That is the short answer. It is new enough that older results saying “no release date” are now stale. It is also narrower than some social posts make it sound: a global date and a set of platform logos do not reveal an exact U.S. unlock time, final PC requirements, every mobile region or the whole in-game economy.

Ananta release status at a glance

Question Verified answer on August 28, 2026
Global release date January 15, 2027
PlayStation PS5 confirmed by Ananta and PlayStation
PC Official Windows client and Steam confirmed
Mobile Apple and Android are shown on the official site; publisher announcement confirms mobile
Xbox No official Xbox edition or date found in the current release set
Nintendo Switch No official Switch edition or date found in the current release set
Price Free-to-play is official
In-game purchases Steam discloses in-game purchases and chance-based in-game purchases
Exact U.S. unlock time Not announced in the official records reviewed here
Previous name Project Mugen was the project’s codename; it became Ananta

“No official edition found” is a dated status, not a prediction that a platform can never be added. Naked Rain or NetEase can expand the release set later. Until they do, a store placeholder, forum answer or autocomplete phrase is not a platform announcement.

What changed at Gamescom 2026

On August 25, PlayStation’s Gamescom roundup named January 15, 2027 as the PS5 launch date. The Ananta global site changed its title and description to the same global date. A dated NetEase release published for Japan additionally named the official PC client, Steam, PS5 and mobile as planned launch platforms.

The agreement across the developer’s site, a first-party console source and a publisher announcement is why the date can now be treated as confirmed. Steam still displayed an undated future-release label when checked. That is a storefront lag, not evidence that the January date applies only to PS5, because the official Ananta site labels it a global release and the publisher includes the PC and mobile routes.

What the announcement does not provide is a launch hour. January 15 spans different time zones, and a simultaneous worldwide unlock can appear on different local dates. Until a U.S. store publishes a timestamp, a countdown that chooses midnight Eastern or midnight Pacific is guessing.

Is Ananta the same game as Project Mugen?

Yes. NetEase’s December 2024 announcement introduced Ananta as the game previously known by the codename Project Mugen. It is a name change, not a sequel and not a separate Western edition.

That distinction matters when searching for a download. Old Project Mugen pages, videos and preregistration links can describe an earlier state of the same project. They may still rank because the codename was public from Gamescom 2023. Use the current Ananta website or first-party store page for registration and wishlisting; do not install a file simply because its title retains the old codename.

The change also explains why two apparently different query clusters lead to one answer:

  • “Project Mugen release date” now means Ananta’s January 15, 2027 release.
  • “Project Mugen download” should be redirected mentally to current official Ananta routes, not an old mirror.
  • “Ananta Project Mugen” is a continuity question, not a comparison between two games.

Which Ananta platforms are actually confirmed?

Platform Current official evidence Important boundary
PlayStation 5 Ananta site badge and PlayStation’s dated Gamescom announcement This does not establish a PS4 edition
Steam Live official Steam product page The page was still undated and its CPU/GPU fields were not yet specified when checked
Windows PC client Publisher’s current release announcement It may be a separate download route; account and cross-save rules are not yet complete
Apple mobile Apple badge on the global site The badge alone does not establish every country, device or final App Store listing
Android mobile Android badge on the global site It does not make third-party APK mirrors official
Xbox No first-party or publisher announcement found in the reviewed launch set Search suggestions are demand signals, not evidence of an edition
Nintendo Switch No first-party or publisher announcement found in the reviewed launch set No claim is made about a possible later port
macOS Steam currently publishes Windows 10/11 as the operating-system target An Apple mobile badge does not mean a Mac build

For PC, the safest action today is to wishlist the official Steam listing or follow the official site’s PC route. Steam lists Windows 10 or 11, but the processor and graphics fields are still not specified. A “recommended Ananta PC build” published before Naked Rain fills in those fields is not an official requirement.

For mobile, registration is not the finished download. The official site can collect interest before App Store and Google Play availability is final. Regional storefronts, compatible devices and download size should be checked again closer to launch.

Free-to-play does not mean “no purchases”

NetEase has described Ananta as a free-to-play RPG since the 2024 rename. Steam also assigns it to the Free to Play genre. That answers the base-price question: there is no announced purchase price required to start the game.

It does not answer how characters, cosmetics or other items will be sold. Steam’s content disclosure currently includes in-game purchases and chance-based in-game purchases. The official sources reviewed for this guide do not publish a complete launch economy, item-price table or guarantee that every character can be obtained without a chance-based system.

That makes two common answers unsafe:

  • “It is free, so there is no gacha or random monetization” goes beyond the current Steam disclosure.
  • “Every character is gacha” also goes beyond what the official pages currently explain.

The accurate answer is narrower: Ananta is free-to-play, some chance-based purchases are disclosed, and the exact boundaries still need a dated official explanation. Recheck the live store disclosures before launch rather than relying on a creator summary made during an older build.

Why the second city changes the China story

Ananta is often compressed into “anime GTA.” That comparison communicates an urban open world quickly, but it removes the feature that makes the current reveal more specific: the game is constructing two different Asian city fantasies rather than one generic neon metropolis.

Nova City is the established setting. Chongxiao is the newly revealed second major city. PlayStation says Chongxiao is inspired by Shanghai and Hangzhou. The publisher’s release material describes both cities as modern Asian urban settings and shows the player moving through business districts, old streets, tea-country landscapes, restaurants, mahjong rooms, arcades, gyms and other everyday venues.

Those details should not be read as a literal guide to Shanghai or Hangzhou. Chongxiao is fictional, and its landmarks are recombined for play. But the visual logic is recognizably more contemporary than the old “China equals palace and lantern” shorthand. Glass towers, a waterfront skyline, social feeds, street fashion, delivery work, martial-arts choreography, lakeside greenery and older low-rise fabric occupy the same world.

That coexistence is the useful China-related reading. Modernity does not erase the older city, and tradition is not isolated as a museum zone. The official lake image places high-rises, rail, traditional rooflines, waterside greenery and a flying car in one field of view. It is designed fantasy, but the design decision reflects a real way Chinese cities are visually experienced: several periods and systems are present at once.

The game also makes online visibility part of city life. Its official copy describes building a reputation and becoming an influencer while moving between missions and ordinary venues. Whether the finished systems make that idea meaningful remains untested, but it is a more current premise than treating China-related culture only as mythology or historic costume.

What you can do now

  1. Start from the official Ananta global site and choose its PS5, PC, Apple or Android route.
  2. On PC, use the official Steam listing rather than a page using the former Project Mugen name.
  3. Wishlist or preregister only if the destination remains on an official store or Ananta domain.
  4. Wait for a U.S. store timestamp before planning a launch-night schedule.
  5. Recheck system requirements, mobile compatibility, cross-save rules and monetization disclosures near January 2027.

Preregistration usually records interest and may deliver updates. It does not guarantee beta access, reserve a paid copy or prove that the final client is ready to download.

Questions readers ask next

What is the Ananta release date?

January 15, 2027 worldwide. An exact U.S. unlock hour has not been published in the official sources reviewed here.

Is Ananta coming to PS5?

Yes. PlayStation explicitly lists Ananta for PS5 on January 15, 2027. No PS4 edition is established by that announcement.

Is Ananta on Steam or PC?

Yes. The official Steam page is live, and NetEase’s current release announcement also lists a separate official PC client. Steam still showed an undated future-release label and incomplete hardware fields when checked on August 28.

Is Ananta coming to mobile?

Yes. The official site displays Apple and Android badges, and the publisher includes mobile in the launch platform set. Final regional listings, device compatibility and download size are not yet complete.

Is Ananta coming to Xbox?

No official Xbox edition or release date was found in the current Ananta, NetEase, PlayStation and Steam records checked on August 28. That means unannounced, not impossible.

Is Ananta the new name for Project Mugen?

Yes. NetEase describes Project Mugen as the former codename for Ananta. They are the same project at different stages of its public identity.

Is Ananta free?

It is officially free-to-play. Steam also discloses in-game purchases and chance-based in-game purchases, so “free” should not be interpreted as “contains no monetization.”

Does Ananta have gacha?

The current official sources do not provide a complete character-acquisition or item-economy explanation. Steam’s chance-based-purchase disclosure is real, but it is not enough to describe exactly which systems use chance. Claims stronger than that remain unverified.

Can I download Ananta now?

The finished game is not out. Use the official site to preregister or Steam to wishlist it. Avoid unofficial “Project Mugen download” files and mirrors.

Sources and scope

Checked August 26, 2026. This is a source-checked release guide, not a hands-on review. Platform coverage, regional stores, system requirements, exact unlock time, preregistration terms and monetization can change before launch; the publisher and the store used to download the game remain the final sources.
