China This Way does not require an account. We collect the minimum needed to operate the site, understand which pages help and review feedback.

Site delivery and security

Cloudflare delivers and protects the site. Like most web infrastructure, it processes request information such as an IP address, browser details, requested page, time, performance and security signals. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

First-party site statistics

China This Way records the page path, a broad referring host, an explicit campaign source when present, device class and Cloudflare country code. We do not record the search phrase in a page URL, a full referring URL or a raw IP address.

An IP address and browser string are used briefly to create a one-way identifier that changes each day. It counts approximate daily visitors; it is not an account and is not used to follow a person across days or other websites. “Do Not Track” and Global Privacy Control signals disable this collection. Detailed daily identifiers are removed after 32 days; aggregate page statistics are kept for up to 26 months.

Feedback

The feedback form stores the report, related page, optional scope and optional source link. An email address is collected only when you ask for a reply and confirm that use. It is not newsletter consent. Resolved reports lose their reply address after 180 days; resolved or declined reports are removed after two years. Rate-limit identifiers rotate daily and are not raw IP addresses.

Advertising

China This Way shows two clearly labelled paid placements on each public page: one Native placement and one 160 × 300 placement. These services can receive the page address, browser and device information, approximate location derived from the connection, and interaction timing. In the United States and other regions where the site can use advertising by default, the placements load automatically. In the EU, EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland and locations that cannot be determined reliably, they wait for your choice. The labelled spaces remain visible even if you decline, a provider has no placement to show, or a provider request fails.

Turning advertising off, or returning to the regional default, refreshes this page so any provider scripts already loaded in this visit are removed before your next choice takes effect.

Google Analytics 4

China This Way uses Google Analytics 4 property G-1QK9SSK8JJ as a separate, external view of aggregated audience activity. GA4 can receive the page address, referring page, browser and device information, approximate location derived from the connection, and interaction timing. See Google’s privacy policy.

Site Hub remains the first-party source used for the site’s official valid-PV reporting. GA4 and Site Hub use different filters and processing rules, so their totals are not combined. Internal visits marked with wa_internal=1, automated browsers, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control do not load the Google tag. In the EU, EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland and locations that cannot be determined reliably, GA4 waits for a choice.

Your Google Analytics choice is saved only in this browser’s local storage. You can turn audience measurement on or off below, or remove the saved choice and return to the default for your region.

Google Search

Google Search Console reports how public pages appear in Google Search, including aggregated queries, pages, countries, devices, clicks and impressions. Search Console and GA4 are separate data sources. Site search itself runs in your browser against a public index.

Third-party links and video

Articles link to government pages, research, companies and media sources. Following a link takes you to a separate service. Embedded video is represented by a local preview and does not contact YouTube or another publisher until you choose to play it.

Use the feedback form for a privacy question or deletion request. Material changes to the services, data or retention periods described here will be published before the new collection is enabled.
